This page explains what information Nifty Driver collects, why, who sees it, how long we keep it, and what you can do about it. It is written to be read, not skimmed; if anything is unclear, email us.

1. Who we are

Nifty Driver Limited (company number 733767), 33 Brookdale Way, Swords, Dublin, Ireland, K67 W3P0, runs this website and the Nifty Driver app, which has two sides: Nifty Driver, a marketplace for van, courier, removals and logistics jobs, and Nifty Taxi, for booking and driving taxis. We are the data controller for the personal information described here.
Questions about your data: email support@niftydriver.com.

2. Who this covers

People who use the website or the app as a customer or passenger, drivers, people a passenger books a ride for, the trusted contacts a passenger adds for Safe-Drop, and anyone who visits the website.

3. What we collect

Everyone with an account
  • Your name, email address, phone number and a password. We store the password only as a secure hash, so nobody at Nifty Driver can read it.
  • If you sign in with Apple, Google or Facebook, we receive your name and email address from that company. It also sends an account identifier, and Google and Facebook a link to your profile photo, none of which we keep.
  • Whether you are a customer or a driver.
  • A profile photo, if you add one. Photos are stored at a web address that anyone with the link can open, and are shown to the people you ride or work with.
  • Settings such as your appearance preference, saved places in the app, and a home address if you save one.
Passengers
  • Each ride: pickup and drop-off addresses and map positions, the times the driver accepted, arrived, started and finished, the fare estimate and the final metered fare, any priority tip, how it was paid, your ride preference (quiet ride, happy to chat, AC), and the four-digit start code for that ride.
  • If you book for someone else: their name and mobile number, so the driver and the tracking link can reach them.
  • Your review of a driver: Good or Bad, the quick tags, and your comment. Only the Nifty Driver team reads the comment; the driver is never shown it.
  • Drivers you have favourited or blocked.
  • Safe-Drop: your setting (off, late trips only, every trip), up to three trusted contacts (name, phone, email and relationship, typed in by you; we never read your phone’s address book), and for each check, where your phone was when the check started and was last seen.
  • Split fares: who you split a fare with and who has paid their share.
Drivers
  • Date of birth, county, the area you work from and how far you travel, your licence categories, and a short bio.
  • Your vehicles: make, model, year, registration, colour and seats.
  • The documents you upload for checks, such as your driving licence, taxi licences, insurance and tax clearance: the photo or file, the document number, the issue and expiry dates, your declaration, and the result of our review. Files are stored privately and only the Nifty Driver compliance team can open them.
  • Your live position while you are online, with heading and speed. We keep only your latest position: it is replaced every few seconds and is not kept as a history. It is used to offer you nearby rides and jobs and to show passengers the car on its way.
  • Your trips, jobs, quotes, earnings, tips, goals, planned hours, availability, Nifty Taxi status, your free year and any subscription.
  • Ratings from passengers (Good or Bad and the tags, not their comments), and your own like or flag of a passenger, which is never shown to them.
Customers posting jobs
  • The job: what you need moved, from and to, the date, the vehicle type, your budget and notes.
  • Exact addresses and a contact name, phone and email for the job, which are shown only to the driver you choose.
  • The quotes you receive and the driver you pick. Your company name, if you post as a business.
Collected automatically
  • When you log in to the website we note the time, your IP address and your browser, to send you a login alert email. These are not kept beyond that email.
  • Our servers keep short-lived logs (IP address, pages requested, errors) for security and to fix faults.
  • On the app, a push notification token for your phone, so we can tell you about ride requests, jobs and documents.
  • Whether the emails we send are delivered, opened or clicked, reported by our email provider. We use this to check that emails work and to stop sending to addresses that bounce.
What we do not collect
  • No advertising or analytics trackers, in the app or on the website.
  • Nothing from your phone’s contacts, photos or files unless you choose a photo or document to upload.
  • No biometric data. Face ID or Touch ID is checked by your phone; the app only learns whether it passed.
  • No card numbers. Payments are handled by Stripe (see section 5).

4. Why we use it, and on what basis

  • To provide the service (performing our contract with you): running your account, matching jobs and rides, showing a driver where to collect you and showing you the car on its way, taking payments and sending receipts, and sending messages about your account, rides, jobs and documents.
  • To meet legal duties: checking that taxi drivers hold the licences and insurance the law requires, keeping records for tax law, and answering lawful requests from authorities.
  • For safety and to prevent abuse (our legitimate interests, and yours): Safe-Drop, blocks and flags, the start code, login limits and the bot check, and investigating reports.
  • With your permission: your location (asked for by your phone), push notifications, Safe-Drop and the trusted contacts you add, and Face ID. You can withdraw any of these in your phone’s settings or in the app.
  • To improve the service: we look at overall numbers, such as how many rides happen in an area, never at individuals, to decide what to build.

5. Who sees it

Other people using Nifty Driver
  • During a ride, the driver sees the passenger’s first name, pickup and drop-off, and can call or message the passenger’s phone. The passenger sees the driver’s name, photo, rating, car, registration and live position.
  • The driver a customer chooses for a job sees the job’s contact name, phone, email and exact addresses.
  • Someone you book a ride for, or anyone you send your live tracking link to, sees the driver, the car and the car’s position for that ride.
  • If a Safe-Drop check is missed, your trusted contacts get an email with the trip and a link showing where your phone is.
Companies that work for us
They only use your information to provide their service to us, under contract:
  • Supabase: the app’s database and file storage, in Ireland.
  • Amazon Web Services: website hosting and the website’s database, in Ireland.
  • Resend: sends our emails and reports whether they were delivered, opened or clicked.
  • Stripe: payments. Stripe receives your card details directly; we never see or store the full card number.
  • Expo, Apple and Google: delivering push notifications to your phone.
  • Apple Maps or Google Maps on your phone show the map, and a routing service receives pickup and drop-off positions (nothing about you) to draw the road route.
  • Cloudflare Turnstile or Google reCAPTCHA: the bot check on the website’s sign-up, password reset and contact forms, which looks at your IP address and browser.
Authorities
The National Transport Authority, An Garda Síochána, courts or regulators when the law requires it, or to protect someone’s safety.
We never sell your personal information, and we do not share it with advertisers.

6. Where it is kept

Our databases and file storage are in Ireland. Some of the companies above (Resend, Stripe, Expo, Apple, Google and Cloudflare) may process information outside the European Economic Area; where they do, transfers are covered by the European Commission’s standard contractual clauses or an adequacy decision.

7. How we protect it

  • Everything travels over encrypted connections (HTTPS).
  • Passwords are stored only as hashes. Driver documents are in private storage that only the compliance team can open.
  • Access inside Nifty Driver is limited to the people who need it for their job.
  • The website limits log-in attempts and runs a bot check on its forms. The app can be locked with Face ID or Touch ID.

8. How long we keep it

While your account is open, we keep what is needed to run it. When you delete your account (see the Delete account page), your profile, rides, jobs, documents, contacts and ratings are removed straight away, with these exceptions:
  • Records of payments and paid subscriptions: 6 years, as Irish tax law requires, without your profile.
  • Anything needed for a safety report, dispute or legal matter that is still open: until it is closed.
  • The fact that a taxi licence has used its free year, without any personal details, so a licence cannot get a second free year.
  • A driver’s live position is only ever the latest one. Safe-Drop positions are kept with the ride they belong to.
  • Server logs: up to 30 days. Email delivery records: 12 months.

9. Your rights

Under the GDPR you can ask us for a copy of your information, ask us to correct it, delete it, or limit how we use it, object to some uses, take it with you in a common format, and withdraw any permission you gave. We answer within one month.
To use any of these, email support@niftydriver.com from the address on your account. You can delete your account yourself in the app under Account → Delete account; the Delete account page explains what happens.
If you are unhappy with how we handle your information you can complain to the Data Protection Commission, 21 Fitzwilliam Square South, Dublin 2, D02 RD28, dataprotection.ie.

10. Children

Nifty Driver is for adults. You must be 18 or over to have an account, and 21 or over to drive. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone younger; if you think we have, email us and we will remove it.

11. Cookies

The website uses only the cookies it needs to work: one that keeps you signed in, and the ones Cloudflare or Google set while the bot check runs on a form. There are no analytics or advertising cookies, so there is nothing to opt in to. The app does not use cookies.

12. Changes to this policy

If we change what we collect or how we use it, we will update this page and the date at the top, and tell you in the app or by email when the change matters to you.
